It is one of the popular aquascaping styles today due to its simplicity. However, to perfect it and make it elegant in the eyes of others is quite a challenge. Aqua Plants Hub would like to share with you about this wonderful aquascaping style!

Developed by Takashi Amano, Iwagumi means stone arrangement in Japanese.

Consisting of 4 main stones:

Oyaishi: the largest stone placed at an angle in relation to the tank. The stone is positioned at the center of the tank and is often placed according to the golden ratio of 2/3.

Fukuishi: The second stone, slightly smaller than the Oyaishi, of the same color and placed in the opposite direction. The purpose is to create balance with the main stone.

Soeishi: Usually placed next to the two large stones. The purpose is to stabilize and fill in the gaps in the space created by the two large stones.

Suteishi: are small stones placed around the rest of the tank, with smaller stones placed in front of the larger stones gradually moving back. Suteishi creates balance for the tank and supports the layout with the larger stones.

As for the plants, the Iwagumi style is not as complex as the Dutch style. The main plants are foreground plants like various types of pearl grass or hairgrass, and mosses like java or mini riccia are currently trending for shrimp tanks. Below the stones, people often plant ferns or other low-growing plants, while the background is usually left empty, but you can add taller plants like tiger grass or tall hairgrass to create depth for the tank.

Choosing fish for an Iwagumi tank. Since the Iwagumi tank creates depth and a majestic rocky landscape, choosing fish that complement the beauty of the tank is important. Typically, we should choose small schooling fish like tetras. For example: Rummy nose, neon, or red-eyed tetra.

WISH YOU ALL A BEAUTIFUL IWAGUMI TANK!
