One of the oldest methods of aquascaping. However, it still retains the essence of blending colors to create a complete aquascape.
The layout of an aquascape in the Dutch style:
- When creating a layout for the tank, players often divide the tank area into equal parts (usually 10x10cm), then in each such area, players will plant a suitable aquatic plant, first considering the color and then the height of the plant. (You can learn about foreground, midground, or background plants here)
- Unlike other styles, a Dutch-style tank usually does not have too much empty space. Typically, 80% of the area is covered.

Some people use root structures with many roots to divide the layout of the tank into several parts and place each type of aquatic plant separately as shown:

How to create a Dutch-style aquascape:
- First, you need to sketch a clear layout for your intended tank.
- Then you will divide the sections and prepare the plants.
- The important thing about a Dutch-style aquascape is that you must have a really good substrate (currently in Vietnam, the most effective substrate for Dutch-style aquascaping is still a mixed substrate, which allows plants to grow well and display beautiful colors…)
- Additionally, you need to have all the necessary equipment to support plant growth, such as lights, CO2, and liquid fertilizers according to the tank’s cycle.
