Currently, many people are using glass In-Out pipes for their aquariums. It makes the aquascape more beautiful by hiding parts that detract from the aesthetic of the tank. However, those who use this type often face a hassle with cleaning it. Due to the glass surface, it tends to accumulate algae both outside and inside the pipe. For algae on the glass surface, using a razor blade for cleaning is quite easy, but for glass pipes, we will guide you on an effective cleaning method to make the glass pipe look like new with Javen water
Cleaning method:
- Carefully remove the In-Out pipe from the tank. Be very gentle as the connection between the glass pipe and the tubing is quite tight; if you are too rough, you might accidentally break the pipe. Next, pour enough water to submerge the pipe.

Step 2: Use a cleaning brush to clean the water tubing. If you don’t have a cleaning brush (the price of a cleaning brush is about 80k), you can use a bicycle brake cable, wrap cotton at the end, and thread it into the pipe for cleaning.

Step 3: Buy a bottle of Javen, any type will do, the price for a bottle is about 5-10 thousand depending on where you buy it. First, pour it directly into the In-Out pipe.

Then pour more bleach around the pipe.

After 15 minutes, the In-Out pipe will start to get cleaner.

Take the opportunity to clean the thermometer as well! It also tends to accumulate algae!

Usually, after a few hours, it will be completely clean; then use water and a cleaning brush to gently clean a bit more until it’s spotless. Personally, I usually soak the pipe for about 5-6 hours for it to be clean.
Note: Since Javen water is quite toxic, after cleaning with Javen, remember to rinse the pipe thoroughly with water. Personally, I usually soak it in water for about half a day, then rinse and wash until the smell is gone before putting it back in the tank. The method above has been used for my aquascapes and ornamental fish without affecting the fish. However, for shrimp tanks, you need to clean more thoroughly to remove any remaining Javen with hot water or soak the pipe longer.

Cleaning with bleach helps the pipe become bright and shiny, but it also has its own drawbacks. Therefore, when cleaning the pipe, you must try to remove all the Javen water.
Wishing you success!
