1 Living environment (water quality, substrate)
Water is the primary environment affecting the survival of shrimp. They are quite sensitive creatures and can easily be affected in health if the living environment deteriorates. Therefore, providing quality water and regularly changing it for them is essential to ensure a healthy and nutritious living environment.
According to experts, water with a pH of 5 – 8 and a hardness of kH around 1 – 6 is ideal for ornamental shrimp to thrive. If the pH rises above 7.5, it poses many dangers to the shrimp species living there. When the water for shrimp lacks hardness, you need to supplement with minerals so that the shrimp can regenerate their new shells and molt regularly.
If you notice the shrimp showing signs of fatigue and moving less, immediately change their water. When their colors fade, it is also a sign of disease. You should check the water to eliminate pathogens if you do not want them to die en masse.
In addition to the water environment, choosing suitable fish and plants, creating a perfect substrate is also one of the secrets to help aquatic shrimp grow and develop best. 2 Water temperature in the tank
Ornamental shrimp are extremely sensitive to their living environment, and they react even more to temperature. Therefore, if the temperature is too high, it will weaken the shrimp significantly and hinder their growth. The ideal temperature recommended by experts is 22-24°C.
For glass shrimp during the breeding period, a temperature about 1-2°C higher is needed (a water temperature of 25°C is suitable). If the temperature rises above 28°C, ornamental shrimp will be unable to lay eggs and may even lose color, so you need to pay attention to the developmental stages of the shrimp to adjust to the appropriate temperature.
3 Food
Ornamental shrimp are not picky eaters; their diet mainly consists of algae, moss, plants, and minerals in the substrate. They are omnivores, so during the breeding period, we should feed them additional foods such as: boiled mulberry leaves, boiled vegetables (green beans, carrots, cucumbers, pumpkins…)
