Techniques for successfully planting and caring for Tulips

Tulips are often associated with the beautiful Netherlands, the vast Tulip fields are the dream of many people who want to set foot there once. And have you ever thought about not having to set foot there but planting, admiring, and satisfying yourself right in your own garden?

CAN TULIP FLOWERS BE GROWN IN VIETNAM?

In Vietnam, in provinces with cool weather all year round like Da Lat, it is completely possible to grow it even all year round. Like the North, the ideal planting time is in the winter crop, so Tulips are sold in large quantities near Tet, around the November lunar calendar. And plant about 30 days before Tet.576e5284953c448ba23806d59d1fb601 - Techniques for successfully planting and caring for Tulips - Aqua Plants HubIn other regions, you can also plant them to celebrate Tet. For those in the South, you should plant them about 25 days before Tet because the weather is hotter. Tulips will grow faster and flower earlier. It should be noted for those in the South because the weather is hot, so when planting, you need to place the pot in a cool place, an air-conditioned room is fine, leaving it in too much sunlight can cause the flowers to go blind, leading to flowering.

HOW TO GROW TULIP FLOWERS WITH BUBBLES

Before planting, we should choose the substrate and Tulip bulbs

The substrates needed for growing Tulips with bulbs include: Fertilizer, rotted manure, coconut fiber chips, and sand soil mixed in a ratio of 1:1:1:1, then treated with fungal diseases by chemical fumigation 2 to 3 weeks before planting.

Choosing bulbs to plant tulips needs to be unscratched, sprouted and of uniform size. When buying bulbs, be careful not to choose bulbs that have dark seeds, are distorted in shape, or are soft. Before starting the technique of growing tulips, wrap the tulip bulbs in a paper bag and then put them in the refrigerator for about 8 to 10 weeks. Currently, on the market there are also many types of pre-chilled tubers that are very convenient.

How to grow hydroponic Tulip bulbs

  • Growing hydroponic tulip bulbs is extremely simple, you just need to find a pot, cup, jar, glass bottle to grow tulips, choose a type with a large bottom and small mouth, and have a knotting point to conveniently place the bulbs. Tulips especially have a white, frost-like appearance, so growing them in glass is the most beautiful.
  • Handling tubers: When handling tubers, you should wear gloves, because it can cause itching for those with sensitive skin. Leave the tubers intact without removing the skin. If you haven’t planted them yet or don’t want to plant them, you can store them in the refrigerator to slow down the tubers’ growth process.
  • Put water in the prepared pot or vase, close to the constriction of the vase so that the water does not cover the tubers and the tubers may rot. Make sure the tubers are 1-2 cm above the water surface. That’s it, I have tulilp to play with.IMG_8043 - Techniques for successfully planting and caring for Tulips - Aqua Plants Hub

How to plant tulip bulbs with soil

  • Prepare pots and pots used to grow plants, you can use pots characterized by hard plastic, soft plastic or ceramic pots, with a diameter of about 7 to 10 cm or 18 to 20 cm to plant pots with a density of 1 – 3 plants/pot. If you plant 1 bulb in a small pot, if you plant many bulbs in a large pot.
  • Prepare clean, well-drained soil, or you can mix soil + coconut fiber + locust ash + sand + a little gravel and crushed stone and mix well.
  • Place the tubers in about 2/3 of the height of the pot, place the tubers vertically, with the tuber sprouts facing up. Then continue filling the substrate until the tubers are submerged.
  • From the first 7 to 10 days you need to water regularly to keep the plant moist enough for the tuber to sprout and take root faster. Over time, gradually reduce the amount of watering, maintaining the moisture of the substrate between 65 and 75%.
  • In addition, tulip growers should carefully fence and cover flower pots to avoid rodents or insects from destroying them.IMG_8044 - Techniques for successfully planting and caring for Tulips - Aqua Plants Hub

HOW TO CARE FOR TULIP FLOWERS

When the tubers have sprouted 5 – 10 cm high, you need to check to see if all the tubers have sprouted. Any tubers that are damaged, rotten, or have deformed sprouts should be removed to avoid spreading.

Light

Tulips need moderate to low light. When planting, pay attention to the location of the tree. If it’s sunny, you need to shade it or put the potted plant in the shade.

Temperature

Tulip is a fairly cold-resistant plant, poorly tolerant of heat, prefers cool and humid climates, the appropriate temperature during the day is 16-20 degrees Celsius, at night is 10 degrees Celsius -15 degrees Celsius. Below 10 degrees Celsius and above 25 degrees Celsius, the plant grows poorly and the flowers are susceptible to blindness.

Humidity and amount of watering

Soil moisture that is too high or too low affects the growth and development of tulips. In the early stages, plants need a lot of water to root and sprout, and develop stems and leaves. During the flowering stage, plants need less water. Air humidity of 80 – 85% is very suitable for tulips to grow.

Fertilizer

During the first week after planting, no fertilizer is needed. After the Tulip sprouts are 10-12cm tall, apply fertilizer, once every 7-10 days, dilute the fertilizer at a concentration of 0.5% for irrigation. For Tulips, you should apply micronutrient fertilizers containing Ca, Mg, Mn… In addition, if you want to improve flower quality, you need to spray some foliar fertilizers such as: Komix, Antonix, buffalo head…

When using Namix clean soil specialized for potted vegetables and flowers, you do not need to use a lot of fertilizer. After 15 – 20 days, you can mix cow manure with a little rice husk ash to fertilize the plants.tulips (1) - Techniques for successfully planting and caring for Tulips - Aqua Plants HubThe growing time of tulips is relatively short, about 35 – 40 days of planting depending on the variety.
