Unexpected beauty

A nano tank layout featuring Unexpected beauty, 26L, by Alexander Gewecke. The hardscape focus sits on Tropica soil, Wooden pellets, Root tabs.

Hardscape (Tropica soil, Wooden pellets, Root tabs) forms the skeleton — negative space between wood and stone guides the eye from foreground to depth. On the plant side, the layout leans toward slow-growing epiphytes with species such as H. mincrantemoides, Anubias Petit, L. Brasiliensis — trim in layers so hardscape still breathes. Foil substrate helps stabilize root-zone nutrition in the early weeks.

Superfish lighting sits at a approachable technical level for this nano tank. None filtration needs enough turnovers without blasting the hardscape; browse matching filters. Low-tech tip: favor slow growers and avoid dense planting if filtration is modest.

Livestock (Red Neocradina shrimp) fits this nano tank — prefer species that will not dig up the substrate and wreck hardscape lines.

Setup notes: Low tech: No Co2, No filter, No heater. 1 monthly water change -> 20 microliters of micronutrient fertilizer.

I was very surprised how well the plants developed in this setup. It might still be visible that this tank is not injected with CO2, however, i think the result turned out fairly good.Category Sponsors
