How to choose the right product

Sinking foods demand species-matched portions — leftover wafers are a top algae and nitrate trigger.

Algae wafers

Hikari/Tetra tabs for plecos, otos and snails. One wafer per evening for small groups; remove leftovers next morning if uneaten.

Pleco wafers

Veggie and wood-rich formulas for bristlenose and clown plecos. Feed 2–3× weekly — do not overfeed non-algae eaters.

Cory pellets

Small fast-sinking pellets for corydoras and loaches. Feed after surface fish finish; use a feeding dish to contain crumbs.

Planted & shrimp

Place wafers in low-flow corners — shrimp graze debris. Avoid oversized tabs that crumble across the scape. Skip a day if nitrates run high.

FAQ

How many algae wafers per night?
One wafer for 2–4 otos or one bristlenose — scale up modestly for larger groups. Reduce dose if wafers remain by morning.
Will corydoras eat algae wafers?
Yes — but dedicated cory pellets sink faster and size better. Rotate bottom foods 3–4× weekly.
Do wafers cause algae?
Uneaten wafers release phosphate and fuel algae or mold on substrate. Portion carefully, use dishes and remove scraps.
Can shrimp eat sinking wafers?
Yes — crush or use small portions. Verify copper-free labels for Caridina tanks.
